Valdemar Sokol
Painter Valdemar Sokol was born on the 2nd of March, 1939 in Prague. In the years from 1962 to 1965 he studied scenography under the guidance of professor R.Landra at Marionette Department at Dramatic Arts Academy. Since 1967 he has been concentrated himself to create independently his dreamful paintings, mosaics and recently graphic art, too. In cooperation with architectors he participated several projects of housing estates, culture centers, wedding halls and others. His task was to decorate houses with his mosaics or to create panel paintings with regional theme. Except 49 shared exhibitons he has organized 27 one man shows in many important places in the Czech Republic. After the Velvet Revolution in 1989 he could finally show his lovely art abroad.His pictures were admired in Sweden, Germany, Austria, France, Portugal, U.S.A., Canada, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. Many pictures by V.Sokol are owned by different enterprises and institutions, some of them are included in collections of National Gallery and other famous Czech galleries or in private collections at home and abroad, too. The author has found his own special technique of panel paintings which is a combination of graphic, painting and in some measure also the sculptural technique because some pictures have a low relief as a bedding. The material of pictures created this way excel the best without any frame. It is always important for the author to enable the lookers to get a feeling to enter the imaginative space of his pictures which shine the light from. The autor can be ranked among the imaginative or surreal painters.
